Gayle King‘s ex-husband is apologizing for cheating on her nearly 40 years ago with her own friend … and the apology comes after Gayle rehashed the pain in a recent podcast.

William Bumpus tells TMZ … “My deepest apologies to Gayle, to our daughter Kirby and her husband, Virgil, to our son William and his wife, Elise, and to our three grandchildren, for the pain I caused decades ago. Those actions were mine. I have long owned them — including publicly in my own words in 2016, which still stand.”

He continues … “Gayle has every right to share what was a painful chapter that changed the trajectory of our marriage and our family nearly forty years ago. I respect her right to tell her story, and that’s where I’ll leave it.”

Gayle’s ex adds … “What I will say is this: I remain endlessly grateful to Gayle. She gave me two of the greatest gifts of my life — our daughter Kirby and our son William. It was Gayle who encouraged and supported me through getting my Yale Law degree. And it was Gayle who chose, with me, to co-parent successfully from the very beginning — a testament to our shared commitment to our children above all else, and now our grandchildren. The love and camaraderie we forged in that work have carried us all these years.”

He says … “Nearly four decades later, that commitment has only deepened, and Gayle and I remain in a good place. She recently sent warm wishes to Poet, my teenage daughter, on her 16th birthday, which meant a great deal to us both. As a private person by nature, I will admit that during our marriage I did not fully appreciate Gayle’s public life — I wanted ours to be more private, and that was something I wrestled with, and no reflection on her true talent and abilities. I am proud to have had a front-row seat to Gayle’s remarkable success, and I remain a genuine admirer and fan.”

William concludes … “I continue to work at being the best version of myself, grounded by the friendship, encouragement, and support of Gayle over the years, by the love of our grown children and our grandchildren, and by the daily privilege of raising Poet as a single dad. That is where my focus remains — on my family, on my clients, and on the work ahead.”

ICYMI … Gayle told her cheating story on Alex Cooper‘s popular “Call Her Daddy” podcast … telling the Alex she got home earlier from the airport than expected and found her husband dressed only in a towel.

Gayle says William told her someone was in the room, but she went charging in anyway … and found a close friend of hers dressed only in a towel. She says she distinctly remembers William driving her pal to the airport … leaving her all alone in their home after discovering his infidelity.

GK says she later called her pal Oprah to vent … with Oprah telling Gayle that William’s infidelity was probably much worse than she imagined.

Gayle and William divorced in 1993 after 11 years of marriage.

Bruce didn’t think another great love was in the cards for him after he and Demi divorced, until he met Malta-born model Emma Heming at the gym of the trainer they happened to share in 2007.

“I spent the last 10 years single and, for the most part, unhappy,” the Die Hard star told W in 2009. “In a dark place. I never thought that being with someone else was the answer. I would say, ‘I’m alone, but I’m not lonely.’ But I was just kidding myself.”

After he started seeing Emma, who’s 23 years his junior, “on a day-to-day basis my life became much happier.”

They tied the knot March 21, 2009, on the beach at their home in Turks and Caicos. Along with Rumer, Scout and Tallulah, Demi was in attendance with then-husband Ashton Kutcher. (They split up in 2011 after six years of marriage.)

Marking 17 years of togetherness on Dec. 29, 2024, Emma—who’s been candid about the difficulties of her husband’s condition—posted about the “unconditional love” that fuels her.

“I feel blessed to know it, and it’s because of him,” she wrote. “I’d do it all over again and again in a heartbeat.”

After Bruce was diagnosed with aphasia and, months later, dementia, Emma cofounded the supplement company Make Time Wellness, with a focus on brain health and prenatal wellness, and launched the Make Time Podcast.

“It’s important to use our voices,” Emma told E! News in 2023, “because through action, awareness and conversation, that creates change.”

Olivia Attwood made a confession about falling in love during a stint on Loose Women today (Monday, May 25), amid her ‘romance’ with Pete Wicks.

The star, 35, who split from husband Bradley Dack earlier this year, is currently reportedly enjoying a blossoming romance with her good pal Pete.

Amid her ongoing reported romance with Pete, Olivia opened up about relationships and love.

“I love love, and it’s great to fall in love and to be in a relationship,” she said.

However, she also explained how it’s important to maintain friendships alongside the relationship.

“But never neglect those relationships outside, because they will probably be the ones that consist your whole life,” she then continued.

Back in January, Olivia and Bradley split after almost three years of marriage, after he was allegedly unfaithful.

Since their split, the Love Island star has reportedly grown closer to her pal, Pete.

They were even spotted sharing a kiss during a night out in Soho back in March.

Speaking to Closer magazine at the time, a source claimed Olivia had fallen for Pete.

“Olivia has always been drawn to Pete and harboured feelings for him. If she couldn’t be with him herself, she didn’t want anyone else to have him,” they said.

“She’s fallen big time and is totally smitten with Pete. She’s always liked him – everyone can see the connection. The secrecy has made it exciting. They’ve spent a lot of time together – they love nights in watching movies together. They can’t keep their hands off each other.”

Olivia has been pretty open about her breakup with Bradley over the last few months.

During an appearance on the Extra Dirty podcast last month, Olivia admitted it had been her “toughest” break-up to date.

“This relationship spans over a decade on and off, so it’s such a big area of my life. And I think that when you know you tried, we both tried so many things to make it work, so of course, it’s just so sad. It’s sad,” she said.

“And also, this is why I’ve not rushed to say anything because it’s like, I can still acknowledge the fact that I like him and I love him as a person, those things can still be true while knowing that it’s run its course. I think it would be easier if I hated him, which I don’t. I think the breakups where they haven’t been such serious relationships, they are easier.”

The 84-year-old was among three entertainment figures honoured at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival alongside filmmaker Peter Jackson and actor John Travolta, with the tribute coming after Oscar-winning actor, singer and director Barbra had earlier confirmed she would be unable to attend the event physically on medical advice.

She delivered a video message during Saturday’s (23.05.26) ceremony, and her appearance came months after she returned to the Oscars stage for a widely discussed tribute to late co-star Robert Redford by performing The Way We Were in one of her most high-profile live performances in recent years.

Ahead of Barbra’s acceptance speech, actress Isabelle Huppert praised the star’s long-standing support for LGBTQ+ communities while celebrating her achievements across film, music and directing.

In her address, Barbra recalled discovering foreign cinema while growing up and visiting a theatre near her school that screened black-and-white classics from some of Europe and Asia’s most acclaimed directors.

She said: “I was mesmerised by those images on the screen.

“They were so powerful that they’re still in my head. I wanted to be an actress and live in those other more interesting worlds.”

Barbra explained filmmakers including François Truffaut, Ingmar Bergman, Federico Fellini and Akira Kurosawa profoundly shaped her artistic ambitions and later inspired her directing career.

The actress also revisited the long struggle to bring Yentl to the screen after studios repeatedly rejected the project.

She said: “I was a woman, which was an obstacle to people.

“Even worse, was an actress who wanted to direct. So every studio turned me down. And for 15 years the project was on the verge of collapsing. But I had to make this movie.”

Barbra added: “In this crazy volatile world that seems more fractured every day, it’s reassuring to see the compelling movies at this festival, by artists from many countries.

“Film has that magical ability to unite us, opening our hearts and mind. I’m so proud to be part of this community, so merci beaucoup and vive le cinéma!”

Barbra had previously issued a statement confirming she would miss the ceremony in person while recovering from a knee injury.

She said: “On the advice of my doctors, as I continue recovering from a knee injury, I am sadly unable to attend the Festival de Cannes this year.

“But I am deeply honored to receive the honorary Palme d’Or and had so been looking forward to celebrating the remarkable films of the 79th edition.”

“I was also very much looking forward to spending time with colleagues whom I so admire – and, of course, returning to France, a place I have always loved.

“While I regret that I can’t be there in person, I want to extend my warmest congratulations to all of the filmmakers from around the world whose extraordinary talent and creative vision are being celebrated this year.

“My heartfelt thanks to the Festival, and to everyone who continues to support and champion the art of cinema.”

Barbra remains closely associated with classic films including Funny Girl, The Way We Were and Yentl, the latter marking her landmark directorial debut after years of resistance from Hollywood studios.

This year’s festival concluded with Romanian director Cristian Mungiu, winning the Palme d’Or for Fjord, his English-language debut starring Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan.

Cristian became only the 10th filmmaker to win the festival’s top prize twice, joining directors including Francis Ford Coppola, Michael Haneke, Ken Loach and Ruben Östlund.

Elsewhere, Andrey Zvyagintsev won the Grand Prix for Minotaur, while The Dreamed Adventure received the Jury Prize, while acting prizes went to Valentin Campagne, Emmanuel Macchia, Virginie Emir and Tao Okamoto.

Swizz Beatz is celebrating a major milestone for his daughter Nicole.

The producer shared a sweet birthday tribute on Instagram on Thursday as Nicole officially turned 18.

“Wow, 18 years of greatness and pure bliss, my Twin,” he wrote alongside photos of the two together. “Daddy is soooooooo proud of the young lady you’ve grown up to be.”

He continued, “Today the world was given a gift, and that gift is you. I’ve never met a human so graceful and pure-hearted as you.”

Swizz also celebrated Nicole’s academic accomplishments, revealing that she was accepted into all five colleges she applied to.

“Congrats on working hard and getting accepted into all 5 colleges you applied for,” he added. “Love you with all my heart. Keep going strong, my love, no matter what.”

Nicole later celebrated her birthday at DJ Black Coffee’s concert at London’s O2 Arena. Photos posted online showed the 18-year-old backstage with her father and siblings during the event.

Swizz later gave Black Coffee a shoutout for helping make the night memorable.

“Shout @realblackcoffee for making the night magical as always,” he wrote. “Shutting down the O2 King you are family 4 Life!!!”

He also shared another message of encouragement for his daughter.

“Always remember to shine in your light my love,” he added.

Nicole’s mother, singer Jahna Sebastian, also shared a birthday message for her daughter on social media.

“Happy Birthday my daughter Nicole,” she wrote.

Nicole is Swizz Beatz’s daughter with Sebastian and one of five children in the music producer’s blended family with wife Alicia Keys.

Swizz, whose real name is Kasseem Dean, and Alicia Keys married in 2010 and share two sons together, Egypt and Genesis. He is also father to Prince Nasir and Kasseem Jr. from previous relationships.

Over the years, the family has often shared moments together online and at public events. Nicole has also accompanied her father to several industry events, including fashion launches and art-related appearances.

She has mostly stayed out of the spotlight compared to some of her famous family members, but Swizz has occasionally shared proud dad moments featuring his daughter through the years.

The Canadian Grand Prix is happening this weekend in Montreal, and honestly, I think one of the sexiest things about Canada is that Montreal hosts a Formula 1 race. I don’t really care about Formula 1, in practice, but in the abstract, it’s super sexy. It’s fast cars and hot boys and danger at every literal turn. Is there a sexier sport? I think about this a lot: Heated Rivalry should be set within the world of F1.

I asked a while ago why is hockey such a popular setting for romance, and while points were made about the inherent homoeroticism of the sport—that’s all male sports, frankly—and the ability to explore evolving masculinity in a traditionally conservative, even toxic space, the number one reason cited is because hockey is overwhelmingly white, and there’s a sort of dark appeal to that for some readers. That is also a big reason Regency romance is so popular, and if you think race has nothing to do with it, just look at the multi-year, ongoing meltdown that happens every time a new Bridgerton cast member is announced.

Ever since I first saw Heated Rivalry, though, I thought F1 would be a WAY sexier sport for Shane and Ilya (although I don’t think F1 fixes the weird whiteness thing). Can you IMAGINE Ilya Rozanov’s paddock fits? The whole “Shane gets a stylist” plot point becomes a MUCH bigger deal in the context of the paddock. To wit: Lewis Hamilton arrived in the paddock today in all black, with a motorcycle helmet. I choose to see this as a Daft Punk homage, don’t take it away from me.

 

And then everyone else is just a sea of athleisure, which is very Shane Hollander-coded. The setting is primed and ready. I can’t help but think about Heated Rivalry on tarmac, all heat waves and revving engines, “churning and burning/they yearn for the cup”. Powerful cars, hot vroom vroom boys. The actress wowed in a dramatic white gown while fellow stars including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Monica Bellucci, Gillian Anderson and model Georgia Fowler embraced glamorous couture looks on the famous red carpet. From sparkling crystal embellishments to sleek monochrome gowns, the evening delivered no shortage of unforgettable fashion moments.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is officially a late show, as in no longer with us. Its last Questionert has been answered; its final Rescue Dog rescued; its ultimate guest (Sir Paul McCartney) has left the building. Colbert filled his 80-minute finale with the same thoughtfulness, warmth and irony that has characterized his show over the last decade. In an earlier episode leading up to the end, his late night compadre Jimmy Kimmel expressed what many of us watching felt: “I’m waiting for angry Stephen to come out! I want you to go nuts.” But Colbert chose to leave the stage with grace and tenderness rather than rancor.

The ten months since CBS announced Colbert’s cancellation have served as an extended advance wake—for the show but also for an entertainment industry impervious to political pressure. One of The Late Show’s last guests, Bruce Springsteen, put it bluntly on Wednesday night, expressing solidarity with Colbert as “the first guy in America who’s lost his show because we’ve got a president who can’t take a joke.” And, Springsteen added, because new Paramount owner David Ellison and his father Larry “feel they need to kiss [Trump’s] ass to get what they want.”

Before Trump, generations of presidents grinned and bore their late night teasing—which sometimes even happened to their faces, as when Colbert brutally roasted George W. Bush about his deathly low approval rating and energy crisis (sound familiar?) at the 2006 White House Correspondents Dinner. And it wasn’t just Republican leaders. In July 2024, Colbert joked of then-president Joe Biden’s debate performance, “I think Biden debated as well as Abraham Lincoln if you dug him up right now.” In fact, Democrats were the butt of most late night jokes when Barack Obama was in power, and Bill Clinton was Jay Leno’s favorite target.

But when Colbert first materialized on the late night scene, he wasn’t really a talk show host in the Carson/Letterman tradition. On The Daily Show, he had parodied a conservative pundit, raging Bill O’Reilly-style against all things liberal. In 2005, he spun off this performance art piece into The Colbert Report, where he coined the term “truthiness” in his very first episode. “Anybody who knows me knows I’m no fan of dictionaries or reference books,” his character declared. “They’re elitist, constantly telling us what is or isn’t true or what did or didn’t happen.” His preference was to rely on his gut rather than knowledge.

Colbert had put his finger on the emerging embrace of alternative truths and conspiracy theories, a pick-your-facts hostility to experts and professionals of every kind. Not for nothing did Trump name his social media network Truth Social, and called those posts “Truths.” Late last year, after CBS announced The Late Show’s cancellation, Trump continued to unleash “Truths” on Colbert. After taunting him about “his nonexistent ratings” (Late Show was actually the most-watched show in its time slot), the president continued: “Stephen is running on hatred and fumes ~ A dead man walking! CBS should, ‘put him to sleep,’ NOW, it is the humanitarian thing to do!”
