HELB Distances Itself from Facebook Page Telling University Students to Eat Rats

• HELB regretted that the fake Facebook page has been sharing information that is not true and misleading
• The government agency urged its followers to disregard any information shared on the said Facebook page
• In one of the posts made by the parody account, its handlers were engaging university students who were inquiring about the disbursement of the loans

Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has warned Kenyans against trusting their parody Facebook account.

The lender regretted that the fake Facebook page has been sharing information that is not true and misleading.

The government agency, in turn, urged its followers to disregard any information shared on the said page and instead follow their official page which currently has 256,790 followers.

In one of the posts made by the parody account, its handlers were engaging university students who were inquiring about the disbursement of the loans they applied.

However, the page admin identified as JK hilariously asked the students widely known as comrades to be patient lest they continue feasting on rats.

“Kama hamtatulia, naona mkiendelea kukula panya. Be patient tunawashugulikia (If you will not be patient, you will continue eating rats),” the manager responded.

Fake Jumia account

In other news, three men were arrested for obtaining money from unsuspecting members of the public by operating fictitious online platforms purporting to sell goods.

Dickson Magembe, Dionicious Omonyi and Derrick Kodek were arrested by detectives from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau following multiple complaints received from the public.

The trio are believed to have obtained millions of shillings from unsuspecting shoppers, by operating fake accounts imitating popular Jumia online stores.

Through a fake Facebook page ‘Jumia Shopping’ the three ran a promotion over the Christmas and New Year period offering discounts of up to 40% for various household goods, attracting shoppers in droves.

An M-Pesa till number where cash deposits would be made before delivery of goods was provided and upon successful payment, an invoice would be sent via WhatsApp promising free delivery within 24 hours.

That would mark the end of the correspondence as the eager clients would be blocked henceforth, leaving them disappointed and with heavy losses to bear.
