I do hope that whoever the new manager is that comes in he has a plan to try something else up top. Because I cannot continue watching Kai Havertz play as a striker for us, and I’ve been saying that for months now – it’s getting painful.
I’d happily sell Havertz this summer. Whilst he’s been good in periods, I don’t understand how he continues to be picked by Chelsea after such an up and down career with us so far. He’s massively inconsistent and just not good enough. Sell to anyone who wants to buy him, with the greatest respect to him.
I realise we just don’t have the options right now and I know that David Datro Fofana is raw, and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been very poor when he did play this season, but right now, I’d be more confident playing Marcus Bettinelli as a number 9 rather than Havertz.
Just try something else. Anything.
Raheem Sterling for me is probably our best option as a false 9 until we finally all get put out of our misery and sign a new striker. And I know that is far from ideal and he also misses chances. Every single player in our squad misses far too many chances. What else is there?
Christian Pulisic is another option as a false 9, and Noni Madueke has played there at youth level for England before.
As you can see, we have some terrible options and this is the main reason I think we should have addressed this in January. But Fofana was kept around for a reason, so just give him a chance. Yes he is raw, but then what is Havertz? Hardly prolific or world class. Fofana, just like Carney Chukwuemeka, has been failed by Chelsea this season and both have had counterproductive development. Poor decisions, should have both gone on loan.
We need to try something else in front of goal and the new manager needs to come in and find a solution. We have a Champions League to still fight for this season, and some pride.
