BBC Saturday Kitchen viewers were left wanting today after they completely blasted a dish on the show, calling it “rank” and a “complete waste of ingredients”. Fans of the show tuned into today’s episode to see James Knappett and his debut dish, spiced whole cauliflower with pilaf.
However, fans of the show were not convinced with the meat free dish, with many taking to Twitter to share their disapproval. Some viewers were simply unhappy with the veggie nature of the meal. “Cauliflower can not masquerade as steak, no matter how you cook it #saturdaykitchen,” one person said.
“If cauliflower is the main event you best prepare yourself for total disappointment #saturdaykitchen,” one said. A third commenter chimed in: ” #SaturdayKitchen A whole roasted cauliflower?! Sorry, mate, I’m not sold.”

However, others just flat out branded the dish “rank”. ” #SaturdayKitchen that cauliflower looks rank! And a waste of ingredients,” a viewer said. “What a stupid meal #SaturdayKitchen,” one disgruntled viewer posted. One person in particular said that the dish reminded them of a “devils brain” with red chillies adoring the top of the brown vegetable.
Some other people seemed more intrigued by the concept. “Wowzers cauliflower has never looked so good,” one fan wrote on Instagram. “Looks amazing,” another said. It seemed viewers were definitely divided on the dish, which James recommended be served with the Finest Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc from Tesco, £7.50.
