Ecstatic scenes from Italy this evening as Great Britain triumphed in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 25 years. The British delegation could be seen screaming into the camera as they celebrated in Turin.
Host Graham Norton promised viewers that they could believe their eyes as the number were counted, Britain taking an early lead. Sam Ryder belted out song Space Man, which quickly earned plaudits online and was branded by some as our country’s best ever entry.
Sweden trailed just behind, followed by Spain, then Ukraine, and Portugal. This is Britain’s first triumph since the 1997 contest in Dublin.
