Well then, the going rate for an elite roster is $13 million, huh?
Talk about honesty and candor, Ryan Day! The news that OSU’s head coach discussed at length during a business owner meeting last week the newfound costs associated with running an elite football program were national headlines, with talk of quarterbacks accounting for $2 million of NIL apiece at the elite level, while a cool million of NIL loot was the going rate for tackles and edge rushers.
I’m sure curious what the other going rates are, but if you take him at his word—-and I see no reason to doubt him, one way or the other—that $30 million Texas A&M class is either pure insanity or pure BS.
This continues to be the story of our summer at this point, doesn’t it? The slow devolution of college football into an Americanized version of European football with the transfer market craziness has been a strange byproduct…….unless you’re totally unaware of what happens in closed systems upon opening the economic spigot.
That comparison is actually way cannier than I realized when it popped into my head as I watched the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool last week: Get ready for the Soccerization of College Football……..plus we have some ridiculous chintzy necklaces from Ann Arbor to discuss.
This is the Bucket of Bullets.
