Whilst yes I can understand some frustrations about a lack of a signing or two, even though we still have time to get our priority one or two done before we head to the USA, I also want to applaud the club for this one wise thing they have done, and are doing.
You would have seen many reports throughout the last couple of seasons speaking about the atmosphere in camp and some bad and toxic eggs causing issues for managers, for other players, and for staff.
I want to applaud the club for seeing that this culture needs to stop and these players need to be gutted out of the club.
They have done this by telling players like Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Hakim Ziyech, and Romelu Lukaku to not come back to Cobham when they were due back and to sort their transfer moves away instead.
I’m not saying it was just these players causing issues, and Chelsea have done well to clear out other deadwood as well. But there is no doubt these three players should be nowhere near Cobham anymore.
My applause should actually go to Mauricio Pochettino as well, because he seems to be the one who said he did not want any players training with his main group if they wanted to leave, and he wanted the toxic players nowhere near Cobham at all. And that is what he has got. So kudos to Poch, and kudos to the club for dealing with this.
Imagine if we let any of these toxic players come back into the ranks stinking the place out with their bad attitudes and egos.
It’s the last thing we need and the last thing Poch needs, who is trying to instil a positive atmosphere and winning mentality back into the place at Cobham, and has already improved the mood.
The players he has got left is largely players who want to be here, love the club, and are proud to represent the badge. And this squad clear out has done that and is exactly what we needed.
We have all been calling for it, and the club have provided. For that I thank them and applaud it.
We are so close to getting this right now this summer, so close. We just need to get the arrivals needed and we are there. Gutting the squad was a huge task and THE most important.
Keep them away, and if they have to come back, let them change in a separate building and let them train alone until they sort their moves away out. They made their own beds I am afraid.
