A hiker has died after falling into a canyon at a popular hiking spot in the North Shore.

It happened the area of Eagle Lake Access Road and Cypress Bowl Road at around 11:35 a.m. on Thursday.

The hiker, a man in his 70s, was hiking with a large group in an area north of Cypress Falls park when he plummeted about 60 metres into Cypress Creek canyon, said police.
His body was recovered by West Vancouver firefighters.
Police said the man’s name will not be released.
