Magnitude 4.6 earthquake shakes Wellington region

A 4.8 earthquake has been recorded, centred south of Porangahau, at a depth of 15km.

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake has shaken the Wellington area tonight.

The earthquake struck about 10.41pm 10km southwest of Paraparaumu, according to the GeoNet website.

It was at a depth of 44km.

More than 20,000 people have registered feeling it on GeoNet’s website.

Many people on social media also reported feeling the shake.
