Dpesite going unbeaten in 13 games, Bafana Bafana are still dropping low in the FIFA rankings.
Higo Broos’ side has dropped down two places, from 63rd to 65th in the latest rankings after playing two friendly matches against DR Congo and Namibia.

They drew 0-0 against Nambia before beating Congo 1-0 but somehow the Congolese managed to climb above Bafana in the rankings. The Leopards were ranked 69th before the Bafana game but their 2-0 Afcon qualifier match against Sudan may have played to their advantage.
Bafana drops two places in the latest rankings
Playing more competitive games gets teams more points if they win thus improve their ranking.

For South Africa, low ranking means they could find themselves dropping into Pot 3 ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations draw set to be held in October. This means that Bafana could find themselves in a group of death and might find it difficult to qualify for the next round.

Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso are the top ten nations in Africa. Bafana are in 13th and might find themselves placed in Pot 3.

Broos’ men next play Eswatini and Ivory Coast next month before their World Cup qualifier encounters against Benin and Rwanda. The likelihood of Bafana improving their rankings significantly this year are unlikely unless they somehow win all their remianing games.
