Are Chiefs fans to blame for coaching changes? Bobby speaks

Kaizer Chiefs are without a coach and football manager Bobby Motaung alleges that the fans are to blame for the club’s coaching changes.

Motaung says Chiefs fans are known to be patient but he is unsure what is happening nowadays as they want instant results.

The lack of results or the continued trophy drought has led to anger from the Chiefs fans and they recently vented their anger at ex-coach Molefi Ntseki.

For three times under Ntseki, Chiefs fans displayed their anger when they lost to TS Galaxy, SuperSport United, and AmaZulu – forcing the PSL to ban them from attending home games.

Speaking to the SABC, Motaung argues that the fans must practice patience and not expect overnight success.

“It boils down to patience and the plan. Now, with the pressures we’re having now, with the mentality of people now, people are not patient,” said Motaung as quoted by SABC Sport.

“I don’t know where this culture comes from.

“Chiefs supporters have always been patient, but all of a sudden we have these issues of pressure, pressure now.

“Some of us are patient, and some of us have a vision, but the vision can only work if people are together and share in the vision.

“Like the chairman was saying about the vision of building Kaizer Chiefs – 53 years later, it’s still there. But there were bumps, smooth riding sometimes, and things didn’t work sometimes.”

As things stand, Chiefs are yet to hire a permanent coach as Cavin Johnson took over from Ntseki on an interim basis.

Having entered its ninth season without a trophy, Chiefs opted to part ways with the former Bafana Bafana coach and roped in Johnson – but they are linked with a jobless Pitso Mosimane.

“Even in the past, we’ve had top players who lost – even Doctor Khumalos had seasons when there was a drought, but we managed to soldier on and build,” adds Motaung.

At the same time, the likes of Ernst Middendorp, and Muhsin Ertugral are also some of the names mentioned to be running for the Chiefs coaching job.

In addition, Mosimane is said to be the preferred candidate by the Chiefs fans, but it remains to be seen if Amakhosi will land the successful coach who recently left UAE side Al-Wahda.
