Chelsea face Liverpool in the League Cup final at Wembley on Sunday and as we know, both teams are hit heavy with injury absentees. Looking at the players that Liverpool could potentially be missing on Sunday, does provide me with a little more hope I’ll be honest. But either way, this is going to be a hugely tough game.
As I said earlier this week, Mauricio Pochettino already has the blueprint for the team that he needs to pick to face Liverpool, and for me, that means no changes from our draw at Manchester City.
We have to keep momentum going and to me that means not making any changes to the team who went toe-to-toe with City and celebrated every block and tackle and actually, probably should have won the game.
The back four simply must be the same and I fully expect it to be. Thiago Silva is fighting to be fit for the game and I truly hope he makes it into the squad, but not into the starting Xl.
I think even if he is fit, Pochettino will go with Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill regardless, because they’ve earned that on merit.
I would do ANYTHING to see our latest club legend, because he is that, Thiago Silva get to lift a trophy in what will be one of his final outings in a Chelsea shirt. He’s been colossal for Chelsea and although I agree he should no longer be starting games, which comes as no surprise for an almost 40-year-old player, he will leave with a real legacy at this club and it will be a truly sad day to bid him farewell at the end if this season. I’d LOVE to see him go out as a Chelsea trophy winner and actually be there involved in the final lifting the trophy and not just a ‘full kit John Terry’ moment!
He deserves a winners medal. He’s earned it. So this is why I really hope he can make the bench on Sunday. I know that he will be doing ALL he can to make it as well.
There’s no winning formula for this game, and it’s actually now quite a tough one to call because it all depends on who actually makes the starting Xl for Liverpool.
But whoever Klopp lines up with is going to be very tough to beat. As Chelsea fans this game is massive. For the club it’s massive. For Pochettino and the players, it’s HUGE.
Let’s go Chelsea and let’s give Thiago that all important Chelsea winners medal!!
