Johnny Depp made millions within hours Thursday after his debut art collection sold like hotcakes.
Within hours of announcing the sale via Instagram, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star sold all 780 pieces of his artwork through Castle Fine Art’s 37 galleries, including in London’s Covent Garden, and raked in about £3 million ($3.65 million), the BBC reported.
Depp’s debut art collection, called “Friends and Heroes,” depicted people who have inspired him, including Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and Elizabeth Taylor.
Some framed individual images went for £3,950 ($4,800), and the complete portfolio of four images sold for £14,950 ($18,200), according to the outlet.
Depp shared a snap of himself sitting in front of some of his artwork being displayed at a Castle Fine Art gallery via his Instagram account Thursday. Two of the pieces depicted Al Pacino and folk legend Bob Dylan.
The post has received nearly 1.4 million likes and numerous comments from fans and pals expressing their joy over the actor finally sharing his art with the world.
His Instagram post, which was captioned only “Now at #CastleFineArt,” prompted a rush of traffic to the gallery’s website causing it to crash, according to the BBC.
“I’ve always used art to express my feelings,” Depp said, according to the BBC. “My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself and limited myself. No one should ever limit themselves.”
The “Tourist” actor added that he used his art to “reflect on those who matter most to me, like my family, friends and people I admire.”
Castle Fine Art also promoted Depp’s work on its Twitter account by sharing a snap of him working on one of his paintings.
“The wait is finally over! We’re delighted to announce that the latest signing to Castle Fine Art is the critically acclaimed actor, musician and artist Johnny Depp,” the caption read.
In another post, the gallery shared some of his artwork. “This exciting new collection, entitled ‘Friends & Heroes’, is a testament to those he has known well and others who have inspired him as a person,” the caption read.
An hour after the gallery posted the tweets, Castle Fine Art said that Depp “broke the internet” and assured fans that the “website will be back up soon.” The actor’s pieces are now labeled “out of stock” on the gallery’s website.
“Karma is repaying you, sweetheart! Well done, and much deserved! I’m proud of you!” one fan commented.
“I am so excited for this wonderful man. He deserves all good things,” another added.
The sale comes weeks after Depp won his defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard and was awarded more than $10 million in damages. The “Aquaman” actress partly won her countersuit and was awarded $2 million.
The exes’ legal battle continues after Heard filed a notice of appeal in Virginia last week. Depp fired back by appealing her $2 million defamation award.
