The squad Chelsea have built is largely showing that it is capable of being a very good squad. We signed talent, and we signed potential, even if a lot of it was/is raw and have questions marks. So whilst that doesn’t always guarantee that they will all prove to be top players, it also doesn’t guarantee that they will all flop, and many of them right now are answering the questions that we have all been throwing at them of late.
In the last few games, I cannot fault any of them really. All I ever ask for is 100% effort from the players. If they are doing that, you wont often see me complaining about them at least. We can chat tactics and what we are doing and aren’t doing all day, but that’s another story. If I see the players out there giving their sweat, blood, and tears for the badge, then that’s perfect for me. If we lose but give everything we physically have in terms of effort, then I won’t be moaning too much about the players.
And that is what we have seen in these last few games. They have really stood up and answered their critics. We’ve all been critics of some of these players this season, especially me.
As I’ve said, I’ve had the jury out on a number of them and I still do – I’m not just going to change my opinion after a few games. It would be wrong of me to do that either way, if I am rating a player or if I’m not. Analysis should be given over a course of time in my opinion, which is why I have never ruled players out completely either. I’ve never really rated Mykhailo Mudryk, but as long as he’s Chelsea I will never fully rule him out and stop hoping that he proves me wrong. I want him to bang here, I truly do.
Some of these players I still have doubts about. But players like Axel Disasi and Nicolas Jackson, who I have had doubts about, as have many others, are currently proving me wrong, and I absolutely LOVE that. I wanted them to continue proving me wrong and demanding flowers from me, and I will happily keep handing them to them. Roses or Daffodils, lads?
They’re currently answering questions and critics, and that is fantastic. I want Chelsea players to do well, because that means Chelsea are doing well, and we are all in this together.
Disasi played his best game in a Chelsea shirt on Saturday and his mentality is just incredible. It’s exactly what we need. Even if there are doubts about his ability, and mine are starting to fade, you can never doubt his attitude and mentality, and this is something we have sorely missed in the last couple of seasons. So even just to have that alone added into our starting Xl these days is a massive positive for all involved in the club. Long may that continue.
Other players too can still prove me wrong, I’ve not shut the door completely on any of them, whether I still have doubts or not. It’s so important to try and be as open as possible when judging players and also, it’s not wrong to judge players either. We are fans, we pay a lot of money to support our beloved club, we have a right to say whether we think players are performing or not. It’s all part of the game, and even the players will understand that. As long as we can be respectful whilst doing it, it’s never wrong to provide critique in my view. Players must use that as fuel. Abuse is always wrong, but proving critics wrong should provide them with needed motivation. And in the last few games, they are proving critics wrong, all of them are!
If they can continue to do this, Chelsea could still have a reasonable end to the season. We have a cup final on Sunday which I am actually now feeling like we have a decent chance in, and we can still climb the table in the latter part of this season and finish in a respectable position. It will be VERY tough, of course it will be. And I wouldn’t say that my optimism is back again yet; I’m still suffering with how drastically up and down this season has been. But the outlook certainly looks a bit lighter than it has been recently, with that light at the end of the tunnel still within sight.
