Setting Goals: The One Key to Success
Success is impossible unless we understand this one key. The key to unlocking your success is found in this word: Goals. Whenever I say that word, it’s like, “Oh, seriously? Goals?” I’ve been in the business world for over 30 years, and I’ve heard countless speakers talk about setting goals. It’s almost cliche anymore. But I have to submit to you, after consulting with thousands of business owners and working in the business world for 30 years myself, achieving levels of success that I’m just mesmerized by, it comes down to the simple word of goals.
As we think about the word, “goals,” do you realize there is a defined measurement, a defined pathway, a defined rulebook on how to achieve your goals? It’s pretty simple. Most of us know the answers. Friends, today’s content is nothing new, but I want to remind you from a different angle of the value of goals.
More than this, I’m going to share some valuable insights and hard-won wisdom when it comes to identifying and pursuing your goals. The first step in setting goals that can accelerate your business is to reflect on them.
Reflecting on Your Values
When we think about goals, one of the first things we have to deal with is reflecting on our values. Gandhi said, “Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, and your values become your destiny.” Have you ever sat down and deeply reflected on who you are and what truly matters to you in life?
Your goals should stem from your core values. If you try to align a goal that conflicts with your values, you’ll never achieve it. We have to know who we are and our values. But reflecting or thinking about your ambitions is only the first part of the puzzle.
