Overview: Top Things to Do in Door County in June
1. Hiking at Peninsula State Park
With a healthy mix of cliffs, forests, caves, and easy lake access, the Peninsula State Park is the epitome of thrilling nature-filled adventure.
Since it has 20 miles of hiking trails, chopped up into several miles ranging from 0.5 miles to 3 miles, hiking is one of the best ways to explore this park.
The easiest trail we explored in this park was the Minnehaha trail, a shaded 0.7-mile shoreline hike that overlooks the lake throughout the path.
My favorite, though, was none other than the 2.0-mile loop Eagle Trail, which boasts natural springs, 150-foot cliffs, and forests.
It was a challenging hike (I recommend bringing a hiking stick), but the view made it one of the best hikes in Door County.
After our tiring hike, we stopped by the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse, built in 1868, to chill and relax a bit.
As the sunset began to paint the sky in hues of orange and pink, we walked to our accommodation.
Yup, just walked.
Luckily, this park was just minutes from Homestead Suites, one of the best romantic Hotels In Door County.
Not much of a hiker?
No worries. Segway tours are becoming increasingly popular in this State Park, so you can definitely explore the park in a not-so-tiring manner!

2. Kayaking or Canoeing on Lake Michigan
If you ever wonder what to do in Door County, just remember this: the peninsula has always been one of the best spots for kayaking and canoeing.
If I were to describe my kayaking experience on Lake Michigan, it would be one word: tranquil.
Especially if you join one of Eagle Harbor Kayak Tours (from Kayak Door County) as we did.
First thing in the morning, we paddled under the shadows of the highest bluff in Door County, enjoying the serene, calm waves, stunning views of the Dolomite cliff face, its peaking caves, and lush trees.
Was the experience worth waking up at 5 AM for?
Well, considering that we did this tour twice in one or two weeks, that would be a huge YES.

3. Biking along the Door County Coastal Byway
Biking along Door County bike trails is more than just an activity.
It’s an entire experience you must never miss out on while visiting Door County.
Since this peninsula is abundant in nature, you’ll be welcomed by pleasing shades of trees, picturesque views of lakes, rolling hills, and other landscape wonders.
No wonder I always saw biking being regarded as one of the best outdoor activities in Door County.
If you plan on targeting specific routes to quickly get the best biking experience, I recommend biking along Cave Point for the best lake views.
You can bike through this area independently or join a tour as we did for the most convenience.

4. Visiting Peninsula Players Theatre
Still, looking for fun things to do in Door County?
Visit the Peninsula Players Theatre, one of the best Door County attractions and America’s oldest resident summer theater.
Unlike other popular theatres located in bustling cities surrounded by packed parking lots, the Peninsula Players Theatre is in the woods!
We visited the theatre a couple of hours before the show started, so we first hung around the beer garden and watched the golden sunset before enjoying an inspiring theatre show.
The theatre show that’ll premiere this June is the ‘I Ought To Be in Pictures’’ by Neil Simon, which is a comedy show about finding family.
If you’re a huge fan of nature or a camping atmosphere, visiting the Peninsula Players Theatre is one of the best things to do in Door County in June.
5. Exploring Door County’s Art Galleries
I was genuinely shocked when I heard that Door County has over 100 art galleries and studios throughout its peninsula.
So, anytime we had extra time after visiting some of the best beaches in Door County, we wrapped up the afternoon by visiting whichever local art galleries we could find!
I loved every single art gallery we visited, but my favorite was none other than the Edgewood Orchard Galleries, which hosts art of over 150 artists from all over North America.
The tourist guide told us that this gallery has been voted the “Best Art Gallery” in Door County every year for the past decade.
I’m not an art guru per se, but just glance at the sculptures and unique art you’ll find in this gallery, and it’ll be pretty clear that it deserves the crown.
6. Sampling Cherry Treats
Since we visited in June, cherry-picking, one of the best Door County summer activities, wasn’t in season yet, so we couldn’t enjoy fresh cherries.
But the good news is Door County’s cherry goodness comes alive in the form of treats all year round!
Trust me, this county has the best of all cherry delicacies.
I relished its cherry pies, dried cherries, jams, and turnovers.
Unexpectedly, I also fell in love with the state’s cherry BBQ sauce (had to bring one home).
Wanna know my favorite “cherry stop” in Door County?
It was no doubt Sweetie Pie’s in Fish Creek. This bakery primarily just sells pies (not much of anything else).
We even met a couple visiting the county who biked from one of the best Sturgeon Bay resorts to Sweetie’s Pies for over two hours just to relish the bakery’s “slice of heaven” (they called it).
If you want to taste other delicacies besides pies, Schartner’s farm market is also a must-visit. That’s where we purchased cherry jams, other berry pies, and cherry salsa.
7. Dining al Fresco
When we were not actively hunting down new spots to visit, one of our go-to things to do in Door County in June was to enjoy good food.
Of course, some of the best hotels in Door County already have fantastic dining options.
But, we’re not much of a hotel food enthusiast, so apart from occasional breakfasts in our accommodation, we always dined in outdoor dining spots.
That is where we could enjoy scenic views while enjoying Door County’s signature dishes.
Where did we find our go-to lunch and dinner fix?
We immediately became regulars of the Waterfront Restaurant during our short stay on the peninsula.
If I were to describe this restaurant in one word, it would be authentic.
The beach-facing restaurant was adorned with real wood, natural flowers, and candles. Even the staff greeted us with genuine smiles.
My favorite, though, was the rack of lamb partnered with curried potatoes. It was cooked to perfection every single time we ordered it.
Oh, and speaking of great-tasting meat, the Steakhouse Chop, 5 minutes away from Waterfront Restaurant, also serves banger food.
We loved their beef tips, steak, and pork chop. For dessert, I was totally in love with their sundae!
8. Birdwatching at Ridges Sanctuary
Still wondering what to see in Door County during summer?
Before leaving the peninsula, take advantage of watching birds at Ridges Sanctuary.
Established in 1937, the Ridges Sanctuary is recognized as a National Natural Landmark.
From that title alone, surely, you can expect this establishment to be very nature-focused, making it an oasis to find peace and tranquility among the hustles and bustles of the nearby towns.
We joined the sanctuary’s Early Bird Hike tour, which started at 6:30 AM (when the birds are most active). We saw shorebirds, scarlet tanagers, and indigo bunting.
It was great how, thanks to the wooden plank walkway, it was a “walk in the woods” experience without the hassles of actively watching your step.
Shortly after our birdwatching tour, we also took a hiking tour to explore the lighthouse with other traveling friends!
If you want to visit the Ridges early without waking up hours before daylight, as we did, I recommend spending the night before in one of the hotels in Sister Bay.
You can also consider the Bay Breeze Resort, one of the best resorts in Door County.
Check out lighthouse tours here.
9. Sunset Boat Cruise
Picture this: you’re on a cruise, watching the golden sun gently weave through the clouds, with a cocktail in your hand, surrounded by vast lake cliffs and the soothing sound of lapping waves.
An acoustic guitar strums softly while you and your loved ones feel the gentle breeze of cold air touch your skin.
It sounds like the perfect way to wrap up the day.
So, don’t miss out on getting on a sunset boat cruise on Lake Michigan or Green Bay!
We booked a boat cruise facilitated by Door County by Water, and the experience was nothing short of the best.
The cruise route alters daily to give passengers the best sunset view possible.
Regardless of the route changes, you’ll be sure to witness the beauty of the Peninsula State Park and the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse from the water!
Check sunset boat cruises here.
10. Attending the Door County Beer Festival
I’m as big of a fan of beers as much as I am of wineries in Door County.
So, when I knew we would visit the peninsula in June, I immediately booked our tickets to one of the most awaited Door County events: the annual Door County Beer Festival in Baileys Harbor.
You cannot often taste great bears from over 40 Midwestern craft breweries, totaling more than 150 beers to sample, accompanied by live music.
Yeah—the experience is as boozy and festive as you can imagine!
The Door County Beer Festival is held annually, around mid-June.
Unfortunately, it only lasts for about 5 hours. But for locals and tourists alike, it’s one of the events in Door County that’s worth the annual wait.
Every ticket includes access to free shuttles to and from the festival grounds, so the price was definitely worth it.
My final thoughts on things to do in Door County in June
With all the things to do in Door County in June, it’s no surprise that most people visit this peninsula over the summer.
The warm weather is fantastic for outdoor Door County activities such as hiking, biking, and birdwatching.
Plus, you’ll also be able to enjoy water activities like cruising and kayaking without the experience being too chilly.
You’ll undoubtedly enjoy only the best of Door County during this season.
So, if you plan to visit this peninsula, don’t hesitate to book your trip in June.
Trust me, you won’t regret seeing the vibrant foliage of Door County during this month.
