Strasbourg (dpa) – Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has called upon those with political responsibility in Kosovo to meet the requirements for admission to the Council of Europe as quickly as possible. “Kosovo, the youngest democracy in Europe, should be part of the Council of Europe,” the minister said on Friday at a session of the Council of Europe’s annual Committee of Ministers in Strasbourg. She appealed in particular to those in positions of responsibility in Kosovo to “establish as quickly as possible all the prerequisites for achieving the necessary majority for admitting Kosovo to the Council of Europe”.
With its court, the Council of Europe is committed to protecting human rights, democracy and the rule of law. Its 46 members include all 27 EU countries, as well as the United Kingdom and Turkey. As such it is responsible for 680 million Europeans – from Greenland to Azerbaijan.
