Junior Khanye said his former team Kaizer Chiefs needed a wake-up call after failing to finish in the top 8 of the DStv Premiership this season.
Amakhosi succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Cape Town Spurs on Saturday afternoon. Cavin Johnson’s men needed a win against a relegated Spurs side but were outplayed for most of the match. Former Chiefs winger Junior Khanye blamed the players and management for the team’s poor season.
“You cannot approach a game as if you don’t care,” Khanye said on iDiskiTV.
“Why would you approach a game and allow a relegated team to build from the back? They allowed the defenders(Spurs) to build from the back instead of having their strikers press and force mistakes.
“In the first 20 minutes, Spurs held possession and had the momentum. They had the belief that they could beat these guys because Kaizer Chiefs were just not effective with the ball,” said Junior Khanye.
Amakhosi finished 10th in the league and won’t play in next season’s MTN8.
“They have to bring a high-profile coach like Pitso who can bring along his technical team and ask for a budget. And majority of Kaizer Chiefs players would have to leave as they failed the team,” Junior Khanye added.
“I’m very disappointed in Cavin Johnson since he took over, I had high hopes for him because I know him and I know he understands South African players in terms of scouting.

“He can get the best out of South African players but he disappointed me at Chiefs. He had so much time since Afcon to redeem himself. If he was Dance, you would have seen the club adopt his style of play,” he said.
Khanye said Johnson’s mistake was accepting the Chiefs coaching job.
“He’s done nothing to Kaizer Chiefs, Even if you bring another coach, the same thing will happen. There are a lot of things that need to change. Not everyone can wear the Chiefs jersey. There’s a lot of expectations, you need to identify players who can fit into the culture at an early age.”

“Pitso can’t do anything with these players, even if you bring in Pep Guardiola, he can’t work with the current players. Expect another seven years of the same thing if they don’t change,” Junior Khanye lashed out at Kaizer Chiefs.
