Orlando Pirates part ways with midfielder Fortune Makaringe
“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that Fortune Makaringe will be leaving the Club. Following four incredible seasons and over 140 matches, our journey with the 31-year-old midfielder has come to an end.
Words cannot fully express our gratitude and appreciation for Makaringe. Throughout his time with us, he consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism and discipline.”
“The Club will always be grateful for his contribution and wishes him nothing but the best in his future endeavours,” Pirates said in a statement regarding the midfielder.
Makaringe joined the Buccaneers from Maritzburg United in 2019. With the Sea Robbers, the 31-year-old skilful midfielder won five trophies and was part of the team that won back-to-back doubles under Jose Riveiro.
In his final season, the midfielder was often shifted to defence by Orlando Pirates coach due to injuries and suspension. The Buccaneers also announced the departure of their assistant coach Sergio Almenara.
“As preparations for the 2024/25 season get underway, Orlando Pirates today announce that assistant coach Sergio Almenara will be leaving the club by mutual consent.”
Buccaneers lose their coach
“Mr. Almenara had initially submitted his request to leave the club earlier this year, however, to ensure the team’s progress and focus during the latter stages of the league and cup competitions, management chose to address this request at the conclusion of the season.
Having lost their assistant coach and experienced midfielder, Orlando Pirates are expected to announce more departures. The Sea Robbers come off a successful season having won the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup trophies.
