According to rumours, Manchester United is going to “devastate” Ruud van Nistelrooy by signing Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.
Erik ten Hag wants a new forward to join Old Trafford by the start of August, when the summer transfer market closes. Despite the connections between Antony and Benjamin Sesko, Gakpo now appears to be on their radar as well.
Edinson Cavani, a Uruguayan international, left Manchester United this summer in order to take on a new challenge after spending two years at Old Trafford.
Mason Greenwood, who last played in January, is still unavailable for selection, while Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-term future with the team is uncertain.
Therefore, United wants to add a new forward as they try to get things going quickly under Erik ten Hag.
The Mirror also claims that Van Nistelrooy would be “devastated” to lose Gakpo, who is currently on the radar of his former side.
Gakpo is now on the Red Devils’ radar, though, as the Dutch side are asking for £80 million for their finest asset.
According to reports, he would only cost £40 million, but the 23-year-old has also drawn interest from Leeds and Arsenal.
PSV, though, has requirements for any possible deal.
Van Nistelrooy is apparently trying to take them into the Champions League, but they won’t consider bids for Gakpo until that decision has been made.
Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg, PSV will take on Monaco on Tuesday night in the second leg of their third-round play-off match.
