Manchester United have seemingly taken a decision on their striker coach Benni McCarthy’s future, according to the latest reports.
After much speculation for months on end, it appears there’s been yet another twist in McCarthy’s Manchester United future.
McCarthy stay looked promising
At the end of last month, McCarthy went to South African radio and spoke glowing about Chiefs. Amakhosi are admittedly the ex-striker’s boyhood club and even though he is an Orlando Pirates legend. He has never hid that. He was then asked about the head coach vacancy at the club, and stated he could never refuse them. This seemed to be because he his deal at Manchester United was coming to an end.
Besides Chiefs, it was also reported that McCarthy was the subject of some possible interest in the USA. This publication reported earlier that options might soon open up for Bafana Bafana’s all time top goal scorer. This in Major League Soccer. The updated response then stated there could yet be hope. This after Manchester United confirmed the stay of ten Hag. It is believed the Dutchman then asked the club to renew the ex-Blackburn striker’s contract. But what would follow was radio silence.
That’s up until now, according to a report from The Athletic, McCarthy is on his way out of Manchester United!
Now set to leave Manchester United
“Manchester United’s Benni McCarthy will leave his position as a first-team coach when his two-year contract expires at the end of this month.The former South Africa international, 46, joined Erik ten Hag’s team two years ago soon after the Dutchman arrived from Ajax. United intend to appoint two new coaches to replace McCarthy and Eric Ramsay, who departed to join Minnesota United in February.” Wrote the publication.
With Manchester United reportedly close to the appointment of Ruud van Nilsterooy, McCarthy’s departure might come as less of a surprise.
