The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cautioned members of the public in Trans Nzoia County to guard against disinformation in relation to General Election circulating on various online platforms.
Trans Nzoia County IEBC Manager Mr. John Cox Lorionokou issued the alert in a brief to the Kenya News Agency at St. Joseph’s Kitale Girls High School, the County tallying centre, on Wednesday morning.
“The Electoral Commission has noted with a lot of concern several accounts of disinformation and misinformation spreading across a number of social media platforms, which are aimed at purely misleading the public over election outcomes for various elective seats in the County,” Lorionokou said.
Pleading with relevant agencies to take swift action, Lorionokou warned that such blatant disinformation was a recipe for unnecessary chaos unless checked.
The official urged politicians and their supporters in the region to remain calm until the agency concludes the tallying process before releasing the official results.
“Vote tallying for the County is still in progress. We are yet to receive official results from all the five constituency tallying centres,” remarked Lorionokou, adding the agency was yet to release any official results for all elective seats.
