Line-skipping privileges look a little different at the “Most Magical Place on Earth.” As of July 24, at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, the Disney Genie Plus service is now renamed Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and individual Lightning Lane access is now Lightning Lane Single Pass.
At Disneyland, there are no actual changes to how the passes function. However, at Walt Disney World, the name change comes with new ways to plan your selections.
Here’s what you need to know to plan ahead for your next Disney vacation.
🤓Nerdy Tip
Disneyland visitors who already purchased Disney Genie+ service as a ticket add-on — don’t panic. For visits after July 24, guests who pre-purchased Genie+ will automatically be able to access the renamed Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
More than a name change at Disney World
Beyond renaming the Genie Plus service at Disney World, the system is getting simplified.
The biggest change is the ability to buy tickets ahead of time versus on the day of your visit. (Disneyland visitors already had this ability).

All other Disney World park visitors can now book up to three days in advance of their visit. Disneyland visitors can continue to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass as an add-on to a ticket or vacation package purchase or on the day of their visit (subject to availability).
At Disney World, the new Lightning Lane booking system will now allow visitors to purchase the Multi Pass and a Single Pass in one transaction. Visitors can also reserve passes for multiple days during their trip at once. And lastly, visitors will have the ability to view rides and arrival windows before purchasing a pass.
How each pass works
The Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows you to plan ahead and gives you access to special lanes to skip the standby line for multiple rides, while a Lightning Lane Single Pass lets you book access for one specific ride.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
At Disney World, the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows visitors choose up to three rides with preferred arrival windows before their visit, but beware, there are limitations to which rides you can book and when.
Attractions vary by park and “tier.” For instance, at Magic Kingdom Park, you can only reserve one spot for rides like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, Space Mountain or Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Let’s call these “tier 1.”
But, you can reserve two (or all three) experiences among “tier 2” attractions, which include rides like The Barnstormer, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Haunted Mansion, “it’s a small world,” Mad Tea Party, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, Pirates of the Caribbean, Tomorrowland Speedway and Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid.
Surprised to not see Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or TRON Lightcycle / Run on the list? That’s because these attractions are not accessible with a Lightning Lane Multi Pass. You must purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass for either of these rides if you want to skip the line.
At Disneyland, you’ll still only have the ability to select the next available window for one ride at a time when purchasing a Lightning Lane Multi Pass. There is no limit to the number of rides (but of course, it’s dependent on availability). You are, however, limited to one Lightning Lane selection per ride per day.
🤓Nerdy Tip
After your first planned experience, check the My Disney Experience app (for Disney World goers) or the Disneyland mobile app (for Disneyland visitors) because you might be able to book another (availability permitting).
Lightning Lane Multi Passes at Walt Disney World Resort also come with Disney PhotoPass perks, like digital downloads of select attraction photos and videos and access to fun Disney PhotoPass Lenses.
Prices for Lightning Lane Multi Passes at are dynamic, so they vary by date and theme park.
Lightning Lane Single Pass
Select rides are not included in a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and instead need to be purchased as Lighting Lane Single Pass.
Visitors can now plan ahead at both Disneyland and Disney World for secure fast-track access to select, high-demand experiences. Visitors can purchase up to two Single Passes per day.
Lightning Lane Single Pass is available for the following attractions at Disney World:
-
Magic Kingdom Park: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, TRON Lightcycle / Run.
-
Epcot: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
-
Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
-
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park: Avatar Flight of Passage.
At Disneyland, you can book a Lightning Lane Single Pass on the following attractions:
-
Disneyland Park: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
-
Disney California Adventure Park: Radiator Springs Racers.
Prices for Lightning Lane Single Passes at either resort vary by date and attraction. You can purchase both the Multi Pass and Single Passes.
Other things to know
As you’re planning your trip to Disney, here’s what to keep in mind before you purchase either Lightning Lane passes:
-
Both versions of the Lightning Lane passes are nonrefundable and non-transferable.
-
Available attractions and experiences may vary by date and are subject to change, closure or limited availability. There’s no guarantee a specific experience will be available on your visit date or at your chosen time.
-
Pricing, terms and entitlements are subject to restrictions and can change or be canceled without notice.
Genie Plus is now retired
This update simplifies the skip-the-line system with clearer names: Lightning Lane Multi Pass replaces Genie Plus, and Lightning Lane Single Pass replaces individual Lightning Lane purchases.
The rebrand came with a few extra perks at Walt Disney Resort, but the functionality at Disneyland is largely the same. Visitors at both resorts can now plan selections in advance. Planning ahead for your trip to Disney just got more streamlined.
