Berlin (dpa) – Decorated with glitter and rainbows, hundreds of thousands of people celebrated Christopher Street Day in Berlin and Stuttgart. According to the police, at least 250,000 people demonstrated on Berlin’s 46th Christopher Street Day under the motto “Only strong together – for democracy and diversity”; in Stuttgart the organisers claimed there were some 300,000 people on the streets. “The atmosphere is great,” said the organisers in Berlin. Having set off to Lady Gaga’s Born this way, 75 floats and dozens of parade groups marched to the Victory Column and then on to the final rally at Brandenburg Gate. The CSD in Berlin is considered one of the largest LBTQI community events in Europe, but in recent years it has been surpassed by Stuttgart in terms participant and spectator numbers.
