Trae Young adds fuel to his rivalry with the New York Knicks.
The Atlanta Hawks bested the New York Knicks in their recent matchup during the 2024-25 NBA season. Trae Young’s side registered a 121-116 win behind a 33-point performance by rookie Zaccharie Risacher at Atlanta.
However, the biggest moment of the night happened after the end of the game during Young’s short postgame interview.
Trae Young maintains his villain persona vs. the Knicks
Young has openly welcomed a villain’s role whenever he faces the New York Knicks. He continued the trend after the Wednesday night win over the franchise.
During the postgame interview, Young urged the Knicks fan to get out of the arena quickly. As expected, he was showered with boos by New York fans.
“I hope these New York fans find their way to the exit real, real quick,” Young said. “Boo. Take y’all ___ home.”
Although it was a brutal jab at the Knicks fanbase, the NBA community on X loved this interaction.
One fan wrote: “New York’s villain no. 1 is back.”
A fan’s tweet that garnered more than 13K views: “Trae owns the Knicks.”
Another fan said: “Part owner of the Knicks.”
A fan loved the cinematic feel of the matchup: “It’s always going to be cinema when Trae Young faces NY.”
One fan brought back an iconic nickname: “Ice Trae is back.”
Another user praised Young: “Trae Young is never shy about the heat!”
All things considered, it’s always great to see a heated rivalry between a player and a franchise. After all, it adds a sense of importance to even an early-season game between the two sides.
Young’s rivalry with the Knicks dates back to 2021
The Knicks have a long list of iconic rivals, including the late Kobe Bryant. However, Young was added to the list during the 2021 NBA playoffs.
Young and co. faced off against the Knicks in the first round of the playoffs. Trae utterly dominated the Knicks and helped the Hawks wrap up the series in just five games.
Speaking of his performance in their recent clash, Young finished the night with 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 10 assists in 35 minutes of playing time.
Following the solid win, the Hawks improved to a 4-5 record. They are still one game below the .500 mark, but the victory over the Knicks could work as a catalyst for a winning streak.
