Akufo-Addo names government’s transition team headed by Frema Opare
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has in accordance with Section 1 (1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), appointed a 13-member transition team to meet with their counterparts from the President-elect, John Mahama.
This is contained in a press release dated December 10 and signed by the Director of Communication at the presidency, Eugene Arhin.
“The following persons constitute the Government side of the Transition Team (the “Team”):
- Head of the Presidential Staff appointed under the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463) [Chief of
Staff] – Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare - The Attorney-General – Godfred Yeboah Dame
- Minister responsible for Presidential Affairs – Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu
- Minister responsible for Finance – Hon. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam
- Minister responsible for the Interior – Hon. Henry Quartey
- Minister responsible for Defence – Hon. Dominic Nitiwul
- Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs – Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey
- Minister responsible for Local Government – Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah
- Minister responsible for National Security – Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah
- The Head of Civil Service – Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh
- The Head of the Local Government Service – Dr. Nana Ato Arthur
- The Secretary to the Cabinet – Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari
- The National Security Coordinator – Mr. Edward Asomani”
Mr Arhin said, “The Team will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, 11th December, 2024, following a meeting between the President and the President-elect, who will serve as Co-Chairpersons of the Team. The President has delegated Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare to act as Co-Chairperson on the Team in the absence of the President.”
“Furthermore, pursuant to Section 5 (1) of the Act, the President has appointed the former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, to the Advisory Council. The Chairperson of the Advisory Council will be the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin,” Mr Arhin added.
The President-elect has, as of earlier this evening, put out a statement announcing the members of his side of the Team.
The Joint Transition Team is tasked with ensuring a seamless and efficient transfer of executive authority, as mandated by the Act, to maintain stability and continuity in governance.
“The President reaffirms his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition to strengthen the nation’s democratic credentials further,” the press release concluded.
