She’s into the second round and as the fiancee of Alex de Minaur, Katie Boulter has effectively become part-Australian.
The crowd was well and truly behind her during a first round win and will no doubt support her again in the second.
Boulter won the match in three sets after dropping the second 3-6 against Canadian Rebecca Marino.
The Brit described the match as “stressful” and put her successful run down to the crowd.
Asked if Australia feels like a home away from home, Boulter’s comment brought a cheer.
“This is the closest I’ve ever felt to home, it’s all because of you guys,” she said.
The moniker of Aussie Katie might be too much though.
“Hey they might want to get rid of me, I don’t know,” she laughed.
“From the moment I landed here in Australia, I felt the love. I can’t tell you how much it means to me, thanks so much.”
De Minaur meanwhile was sitting in the stands after winning against Botic van de Zandschulp. Boulter was clueless on the result though.
“I’m guessing he won,” when asked if she knew.
“I kind of figured if he lost he might not be sat there, I went with the win and I heard a massive roar so I figured that was an Aussie win. I’m so happy to see him through.”
