The season appears to be over for Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George, ending an unhappy 2024/25.
With a deal for Paul George in free agency in summer 2024, the Philadelphia 76ers felt they had won the off-season.
On the court, the real season was a disaster. Combined with Joel Embiid’s injury issues, Paul George suffered a mixture of poor form and fitness troubles, and now his season appears to be over.
The team issued a statement: “Following consultations with specialists, as part of his treatment plan, Paul George has received injections in both his left abductor muscle and left knee.
“Following the procedure, George is medically unable to play and will be out for at least six weeks. Further updates on his recovery will be provided as appropriate.”
The Sixers appear to have given up on the season and barring a miraculous turnaround and entry to the playoffs, we will not see Paul George again this season.
Paul George injury reaction
The injury news has felt inevitable after he played in just one of the Philadelphia 76ers last eight games. At least now everybody knows where they stand.
The situation is unfortunate for the team and for Paul George, who declared he was going to put his full focus on the team.
At the end of February, George announced he was placing his podcast on pause, claiming he was still dreaming of a championship run with the 76ers.
The news Paul George is being shut down led to a similar reaction from fans on social media.
One wrote: “The good news: Paul George can once again dedicate his time to the podcast. Everyone is happy.”
“Back to his regularly scheduled Podcasting,” added another, with a third writing: “Now he can go back to his podcast.”
“Podcast P is back!” joked another, with a another fan adding: “This just means podcast P makes his return.”
Paul George season has been terrible
The Paul George experiment in Philadelphia has been a costly mistake. His arrival was supposed to provide added insurance if Joel Embiid suffered injury problems, yet he was unable to shoulder the burden of leading the team.
His points per game dipped from 22.6 on the LA Clippers last season to 16.2 for the Sixers, his lowest for a full decade.
There were some who predicted the combination of George and Embiid would not work. For now it appears the team are stuck with his expensive salary.
The 76ers may try to trade George this summer, but there won’t be many takers with his contract.
Philadelphia rank 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 23-44 record.
