The New York Knicks and Utah Jazz recently re-engaged in trade talks centered around Donovan Mitchell. While the NBA sources who reported the news made it known that there is no traction on a deal right now, it is encouraging that the two sides have gotten back to the negotiating table.
Part of the reason that talks reached a stalemate is because of the asking price that Danny Ainge and the Jazz have set.
They are looking for a haul and want to get back at least what they received from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Rudy Gobert, if not more. In addition, they want multiple young players on rookie contracts.
That isn’t a price that Leon Rose and the Knicks have been willing to meet just yet. They know that they have the most assets to offer, but there is no reason to unload all of them in this trade.
When looking around the league, a B offer from New York tops many of the A+ offers teams that have been linked to Mitchell can offer.
There will be some posturing, as it was shared earlier in the week that the Jazz have other offers on the table they like a lot. If that was the case, they would have accepted one already but they are looking to get as much out of the Knicks as possible.

That will likely require their asking price to come down and the two sides to find a middle ground on what Utah would prefer. Do they want young players or draft picks, because the Knicks are unwilling to part with both.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at this hypothetical trade package that would land Mitchell in the Big Apple.
