The Proteas have a golden chance to put some demons to rest when they embark on a quest to win the ICC T20 World Cup in India.

The taste of silverware

The Proteas ended a 26-year trophy drought when they beat Australia in the World Test Championship final at Lord’s in 2025. Aside from giving them a much-needed shot in the arm and silverware for the cabinet, it also silenced a lot of the haters who have given them the ‘chokers’ tag after several failures in nbig tournaments.

Proteas players to watch at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India

Quinton de Kock’s experience and destructive ability at the crease make him arguably the key operator in this Proteas squad. The 33-year-old scored a swashbuckling 115 from 49 balls against the West Indies on 29 Jan, suggesting he’s hitting form at the right time. 22-year-old Dewald Brevis turned heads in the recent SA20 series, scoring 370 runs at an average of 41.10. Only De Kock (390) scored more.

As always, the pedigreed pace bowling of Kagiso Rabada will be integral to any success the Proteas enjoy. The same can be said for the antics of giant left-arm fast bowler Marco Jansen. Keshav Maharaj’s spin nowling however, might be the difference.
