Mohamed El-Gawsaky, Chief Executive Officer of GAFI, met with Emad El-Sewedy, Chairperson of ElSewedy Electrometer, in the presence of Mohamed Shawky, Director of the company’s Electricity Business Line, and Hesham Shaker, Director of Financial Planning and Budgeting. The meeting focused on addressing existing challenges, enhancing cooperation, and supporting the company’s expansion plans in Egypt.
The discussions were attended by senior GAFI officials, including Yasser Abbas, Vice CEO of GAFI; Essam Beheiry, Head of the Free Zones Sector; and Ayman El-Shereay, Head of the Central Administration for Free Zones.
Talks covered available expansion opportunities for ElSewedy Electrometer, with an emphasis on achieving a balanced approach between exports to foreign markets and serving the domestic market. The meeting also explored the potential for expansion under the domestic investment system to meet local market needs, support national industries, and deepen domestic manufacturing.
During the meeting, El-Gawsaky reaffirmed GAFI’s commitment to supporting local investments and resolving challenges facing investors. He noted that the authority is working to enhance transparency and provide a stable, investor-friendly environment, which helps build confidence in the investment climate while maintaining a balance between attracting investment and protecting the national economy.
For his part, Emad El-Sewedy said that 2026 will mark a year of growth for ElSewedy Electrometer, a leading manufacturer of energy metering and management solutions. The company specialises in the production of smart and conventional electricity meters, as well as water and gas meters, in addition to offering integrated solutions for smart infrastructure and grid management systems.
He added that the company has already begun exporting to European markets, particularly the Czech Republic and Spain, despite differences between European and African standards. ElSewedy Electrometer has successfully met European requirements and achieved export growth from within free zones, underscoring the competitiveness of Egyptian industry.
The meeting forms part of GAFI’s broader strategy to strengthen public-private partnerships, support industrial expansion, and maximise the role of free zones in boosting exports and creating job opportunities, in line with Egypt’s sustainable development agenda and Vision 2030.
