Earlier on Thursday, the Proteas maintained their unbeaten run at the T20 World Cup as they defeated the West Indies by nine wickets in Ahmedabad.
That win pushed the Proteas to four points in Group 1, and they are now guaranteed a top-two finish, with Zimbabwe unable to qualify for the knockout phase after a loss to India.
The other qualifier alongside South Africa will either be India or the West Indies depending on who wins their upcoming game.
South Africa currently has the best Net Run Rate (NRR) of +2.890 and sits at the top of Group 1, and they are likely to claim victory in their final match against Zimbabwe to finish as their Super 8 winners.
If the Proteas finish first as expected, they will face the second-place finisher in Group 2 in the semi-finals. That will likely be New Zealand or England, depending on the outcome of their game tomorrow.

The semi-final format will work as follows, with the Proteas and England now qualified for the knockout phase:
- Semi-final 1: Winner of Group 1 vs. Runner-up of Group 2
- Semi-final 2: Winner of Group 2 vs. Runner-up of Group 1
South Africa on a hot streak
An Aiden Markram special guided South Africa past West Indies in Ahmedabad on Thursday, and through to the semi-final of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
After a record partnership Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd helped West Indies fight back from 83/7 to 176/8 in 20 overs. But Markram shut out any more comebacks by the Caribbean side, scoring an unbeaten 82 as South Africa raced to 177/1 in 16.1 overs.
South Africa’s semi-final is likely to take place on 4 March.
