Four grievances have been filed against Superintendent of Schools for the district encompassing Uvalde, Texas, as parents of traumatized children seek to have him removed.
Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) superintendent Hal Harrell’s ability to stay in the job is being challenged after a damning Texas House investigative committee report citing the Robb Elementary School’s “culture of non-compliance with safety policies,” CNN reported.
Adam Martinez, the parent of a child who survived but remains traumatized, told CNN that he wants “accountability,” from the superintendent on down.
The safety lapses included the school’s alleged failure to adequately prepare for a possible shooter, as well as the practice of not locking the doors. The May 24 massacre ended in the death of 19 children and two teachers after police stood by outside the besieged classroom for an hour or more.
The school board began its meeting with a 10-minute public comment period, then moved into private executive session, KSAT-TV reported.
A second hearing is slated for Wednesday in which the fate of district police chief Pete Arredondo will be discussed.
The moves come as the affected families prepare to file a $27 billion civil rights lawsuit against local and state police, the shop that sold the gunman his weapon, and the gun’s manufacturer.
