15 of the wickets to fall so far have been to left arm seamers
This really is a pitch for the left hand seamers isn’t it?
Go Starc!
– Doc
11th over – Nathan Lyon comes into the attack!
This is interesting.
Are they trying to rush through an over before lunch?
Bat pad, single slip and Lyon runs in towards Shanto, who backs away because bat pad (Matt Renshaw) is not ready under the helmet and Lyon has to wheel away too.
There’s a bit of movement off the deck there, Lyon straightening the ball on the stumps. Shanto defends.
He defends another one off his stumps too.
Leg stump line, straightening, and Shanto defends.
BIG APPEAL! Carey likes that! Was there an edge? Are they going to look for a stumping? Cummins is going to review this! Carey must be absolutely convinced.
Oh my that was very close to the edge of the bat! There was turn off the pitch, just enough to beat the outside edge, but was there a sound?
Nope. Nothing on the edge detection microphone and it’s not out.
That puts paid to the thoughts off getting a quick over in.
Solid defence from Shanto, big stride to get to the pitch, with silly cover in place.
Solid defence ends the over, and the session.
10th over – Cummins has another
Mushfiqur pushes away for a single to mid on.
Shanto drives but it comes off a thick outside edge to point and there is no run.
Shanto defends solidly the next delivery, Cummins just making him play the ball by targeting the stumps.
Shanto clips off his pads for a single to square leg, Cummins just a bit too leg side to the left hander.
Full ball, angled into the right hander’s stumps, and it’s well defended by Mushfiqur.
BIG APPEAL! Cummins liked that but it looked leg side to me. Cummins decides its not worth reviewing and I think he’s right. Yes, very clearly missing leg stump.
9th over – Starc is expensive, but carries on
He’s going at five an over so far.
FOUR! Shanto drives through the covers for four! Outswinging delivery that was fully pitched outside off but it matters not to the skipper.
FOUR MORE! Shanto goes bang down the ground! A flourish of the bat and he smashes that delivery down to long off for another boundary! Not a great ball from Starc, but it still needed hitting.
Yorker! Fuller ball, Starc angles towards the leg stump of Shanto and the skipper fends it away. Starc has a word. And then umpire Menon tells him it’s a no ball too.
Shanto tries to pull that one away but makes no real contact and it drops at his feet.
He helps that next one away off his hip for a single.
Mushfiqur defends solidly to a fuller ball on his stumps.
Nicely driven down the ground by Mushfiqur down the ground for three runs, Travis Head trotting after it.
8th over – Mushfiqur is the new man in
And he leaves one ball from Captain Pat outside off.
Good over from the skipper, a wicket maiden for the first of his spell.
8th over – Captain Pat before lunch
Bouncer to start from the skipper, three slips and a gully in place.
Next ball is fuller, on the stumps and Tanzid clips it to mid wicket for no run.
Solid defence from Tanzid now.
Full from Cummins, outside off, tentatively fended away by Tanzid into the cover region for no run.
7th over – Starc carries on
I’d like to see Cummins have an over before lunch, but both these opening new ball bowlers have been good so far.
Shanto gets a single straight away.
Down the leg side, bit of a spray from Starc that one.
Tanzid leaves the next one outside off.
And another outside off.
And another, Starc just struggling a bit with the radar at the moment.
He gets that fifth one right though and, it’s 142km/h on the money. Or perhaps not, it’s a no ball.
BEATEN! Not much a whole lot either! That ball just nipped in and beat the inside edge of the driving blade, and missed the off stump by a fraction. Goodness me. Words are exchanged.
Tanzid clips the last off his pads for a single.
Erratic over, that one, from Starc.
6th over – Hazlewood carries on
Bouncer outside off stump first up, Hazlewood ponders and mulls over that ball.
Outside off from around the wicket this time by Hazlewood, Tanzid leaving outside off. He will have to try and leave an awful lot more than he plays to frustrate these bowlers.
Not that ball though, a good one right on the stumps that Tanzid presents a straight bat to.
Oh that was close, inside edge of the bat, the ball squirting to square leg and there’s nobody there so they will run two.
Outside off, left alone.
BEATEN! Shanto has a swish at the ball that flies past on a sixth-stump line and it’s one he should have left well alone.
5th over – Starc continues
Full from Starc, on the stumps, clipped away by Tanzid neatly, for a single to deep backward square leg.
Bouncer. Good ball at 141km/h.
Wide outside off from Starc.
EDGED! JUST WIDE OF GREEN AT GULLY! Green dived to his right but not even he could get there in time. It’s a great effort. Starc has a little chat with the diminutive Bangladeshi skipper as the ball races to the boundary for four.
Down the leg side, left alone.

FOUR! That’s a great shot, driven back down past Starc to long off. Starc has nothing to say this time, and neither should he. That was a terrific cricket shot.
4th over – Hazlewood carries on
Tanzid defends the first.
Outside off, left alone by Tanzid.
Shorter from Hazlewood, Tanzid backs away and leaves the ball as it flies through to Carey, who still has his three slips and a gully for company back there behind the stumps.
Tanzid attempts a drive on the up and inside edges into his pads. Dangerous shot to play against Hazlewood.
Too straight from Hazlewood, Tanzid clips off his pads for a single.
BEATEN! That’s rapped Shanto on the pads but too high to be a danger of being LBW, a ball that did swing into the left hander.
3rd over – Skipper Shanto faces the hat-trick ball
Outside off, a good ball from Starc and Shanto leaves it alone, a big outswinger from the left arm seamer.
FOUR! What a shot from Shanto to get off the mark, another outswinger and the skipper drives to cover for a boundary. Lovely shot.
BEATEN! What a ball, late swing and Shanto has to run away to the leg side to clear his head, after that ball nearly cleared up his wicket.
3rd over – Mominul Haque is the new man in
3rd over – Starc continues
Starc gets the ball to rush Shadman a little bit as he fends into the off side – nowhere for the ball to go through. There was a bit of bounce that was not quite what Shadman expected.
2nd over – Josh Hazlewood comes into the attack at the other end
It’s not warm in Mackay today, 22 degrees, and breezy.
Hazlewood starts on leg stump and Shadman gets off a pair too, a single to square leg.
Outside off, terrific carry off the pitch on its way through to Carey, who has three slips and a gully in place.
CLOSE! Inside edge onto the pad there as Hazlewood gets the ball to come back in a little bit. Good ball, that.
Outside off, left alone by Tanzid. Very, very, watchful so far from the Bangladesh opener.
Well left, a tight one outside off but the Tanzid of Darwin has returned. The Bangadeshi batters can be disciplined here and frustrate the Aussies, who may be expecting to roll through them again.
Good ball from Hazlewood, a really good over from him in fairness, but it was very well played from Tanzid.
These two might take some moving given the lack of real movement through the air.
1st over – Mitch Starc with the new ball
He surely can’t strike with the first ball again, can he? Three slips and a gully in place.
FOUR! No he can’t! Tanzid Tamim is off a pair with a lovely shot, punching the ball down the ground to the long on boundary. It was a full toss, not a great ball from Starc, who looked for the yorker and missed it by a distance.
Solid defence from Tanzid next up as Starc gets his length right.
Another solid defensive stroke from Tanzid.
BEATEN! That’s a ripper from Starc, who decided going full had served its course and dropped one on a good length and beat the outside edge.
Full again from Starc, not as much swing and none of it late as the ball is fended away by Tanzid.
Tanzid pushes a full ball into the covers for no run to end the over.
Starc was looking for the swing and there was not nearly as much swing as he would have liked.
