U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv for the first time amid skepticism that Washington’s renewed peace outreach would end Russia’s four-and-half year old full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
President Donald Trump’s hand-picked negotiators were greeted by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the historic St. Sophia’s Cathedral in central Kyiv after arriving in the capital by train.
“There will be an opportunity for extensive discussion,” Zelenskyy said. “I thank Trump for allowing them to come.” Sunday’s talks will also include officials from the U.K., Germany and France, according to the Ukrainian leader, Zelenskyy said.
