Chelsea went into this three week international break with the hope they would come out of it with most of their injured players back, with new options and fresh players ready to attack the next phase of the league.
Instead, things have taken the worst possible start, with a new injury popping up for the Blues just days into the extended break.
Gittens limps out of England Under 21s game
Thankfully it’s for a player who was barely featuring even has a sub – but that will be cold comfort for Jamie Gittens.
The winger was pictured on crutches after coming off during England Under-21s win over Kazakhstan, and fans feared the worst.
The good news is that an update from Under-21s coach Lee Carsley is that it’s a “kick” rather than anything internal. The winger has been released from duty, and is already back at Chelsea having some rehab on the issue.
Still, these few weeks were a great chance for the young winger to get the minutes he’s not getting with Chelsea’s first team. This setback could affect his whole season, and potentially his Chelsea career, which feels like it’s in the balance right now.
In other news…
Thomas Tuchel lamented “too many missed opportunities” for Cole Palmer after the attacker pulled out of another England camp injured.
Carlo Ancelotti has promised Estevao game time in this international break, which is great news for Chelsea after losing Gittens.
