NDIS and Government Services Minister Bill Shorten says Robodebt was a “shameful chapter” in Australia’s history of public administration and a “massive failure” of policy and law.
This comes after the government announced the details of a royal commission to investigate the matter.
“Citizens will recollect that the government unlawfully raised debts of at least $1.76 billion against 433,000 Australian citizens,” Mr Shorten said during a media conference on Thursday.
“The previous Liberal administrations had no lawful right to raise these debts – it caused untold harm.”
