The event was hosted by Radio Jambo presenter, Massawe Japanni and Spice FM radio presenter, Jimmy Gathu. Lady Justice Roselyn Aburili presided over the ceremony.
Sakaja is the fourth governor to take over City Hall after Evans Kidero, Mike Mbuvi Sonko and Anne Kananu respectively.
His deputy, Njoroge Muchiri also took oath of office as the Nairobi county deputy governor.
“Having presented the two great leaders with the legal and constitutional instruments as administered by the Judiciary in accordance with the Constitution and enabling statute, I hereby present to you the people of Nairobi, your duly elected governor and deputy county governor,” the lady justice stated.
While making his first remarks as governor, Sakaja urged the Nairobi residents to join forces in order to build a better county. He also lauded his competitor, Jubilee’s Polycarp Igathe for challenging each other on issue based politics.
“I always believe that Nairobi is a working city and we will become an unstoppable force, this is what we stand for; a city of order, dignity, hope and opportunity for all. We can make Nairobi work together,’
“I want to acknowledge my competitors, especially my friend Polycarp Igathe who I sat with recently and he excused himself today for he is traveling. Many of you might not know but running for office is above all an act of patriotism and courage. So thank you for engaging on the issues and moving the county and our politics forward in the most positive way. You are a true embodiment of Siasa Safi,” he stated.
