The situation in Palestine continues to be dire. Palestinians who believed that Rafah was a safe place to seek refuge are now being slaughtered in that same ‘safe place’. These distressing events have drawn the attention of people all around the world.
The AI-generated photo of ‘All Eyes on Rafah’ has been shared over 40 million times on Instagram across many users’ platforms, including yours, and some celebrities like supermodels Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, and actors Ramy Youssef and Nicola Coughlan.
Even though the AI-generated photo made quite a viral statement with over 40 million shares, many had mixed thoughts about it. Many users took to X/Twitter and other social media platforms that the photo seemed performative, just like the black square image during the BLM movement back in 2020. It does not provide any educational content or live media coverage of what is actually happening in Rafah.
However, some people think, it’s getting the attention it needs, irrespective of the visual itself, but rather the context surrounding it. Whether it’s through art, quotes, news, or live coverage; any type of awareness is doing its job if it sends a message of injustice and captures the attention of someone who isn’t aware of the 8-month genocide.
We are truly heartbroken that the genocide is still going on, that innocent lives are still being lost. We feel totally helpless and powerless, but we believe the viral post of ‘All Eyes on Rafah’ will drive many to curiosity and get them educated on the horrific matter.
