Arsenal have signed goalkeeper, Kaylan Marckese from HB Koge.
Marckese began her senior career in her home country, America with Sky Blue FC (now known as Gotham FC) before joining Selfoss in Iceland in 2020, where she helped the Icelandic club win the Women’s Super Cup that season during which she made 19 appearances.
A move to HB Koge soon followed where she made 43 appearances across the last two seasons, which included defeats in both meetings against Arsenal in last season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League by a total aggregate of 8-1.
During her time at HB Koge, she helped the Danish club win consecutive Elitedivisionen titles in 2020-21 & 21-22 seasons plus reach semi-finals of 2021 Danish Women Cup.
“I don’t think it’s really settled in yet, but it’s like a dream come true,” commented Marckese as she iterated that she will try her best to represent the club to the best of her ability, whilst describing her move to north London as “an absolute privilege” for herself.
Manager and current BBC pundit for 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro, Jonas Eidevall added that Marckese “will bring real quality” as an “excellent goalkeeper” to the squad.
On what fans can expect from Marckese this season, Eidevall said: “Her performances over the past two years in Denmark show that she is ready for the challenge of playing in England and we feel that Arsenal is the right place for her to kick on.”
Arsenal’s Head of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley meanwhile is “delighted” to secure Marckese who “… has built up strong experience in European football over the last few years and will bring added quality and competition to our squad ahead of the new season.
Marckese will wear the No.18 shirt this season and could make her competitive debut away to Manchester City on the opening weekend of 2022-23 Women’s Super League season.
