Brentford stabbings: Murder arrest after man killed and woman, 82, seriously hurt in west London street | UK News

A murder suspect has been arrested after a man was killed and an elderly woman seriously injured following stabbings in a street in west London.

The male victim, believed to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene in Brentford after witnesses said he tried to challenge the attacker on Friday evening.

The 82-year-old woman was reported to have been walking home from a friend’s house when she was stabbed.

She was taken to hospital with “stab injuries” and her condition is serious but not assessed as life-threatening, police said.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder on Saturday morning and is in custody at a London police station.

The Metropolitan Police said there is nothing to suggest the incident is linked to terrorism and nobody else is being sought as a suspect over the stabbings.

Paul Moore, who lives nearby, told Sky News he helped the woman after she was attacked in Albany Parade at about 8pm on Friday.

“She was walking home from her friend’s house and she thought the man had pushed her but she had been stabbed in the back,” he said.

“She is a lovely woman. I’ve known her more than 30 years. Everyone knows her.”

Mr Moore said he had been told the man who was killed had challenged the attacker and it was then that he was stabbed.

The male victim was said to have staggered to a kebab shop in Albany Road and died at the scene.

Mr Moore, who lives in a nearby block of flats with his wife and two young children, said: “It’s insane. It puts us in a position where we ask ourselves if we are safe.

“It makes me feel very anxious. We are always out here and for an incident of that sort to cause a young person to die is very worrying.”

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward

The Met Police said officers believe they know the male victim’s identity and they are providing support to his family.

London Ambulance Service, which was called at 7.49pm on Friday, said: “Sadly, one person died at the scene. We treated another person at the scene and took them to a hospital as a priority.”

Local resident Kouri Kaur said: “I’m very concerned because I have lived in this area for 20 odd years and we haven’t actually seen something like this before especially if it’s an older person.

“It’s a concern for us… it’s not nice to hear.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101.
