New Zealand have cruised to a win over the Cook Islands in the women’s triples lawn bowls bronze medal match at the Commonwealth Games.
Skip Val Smith and team-mates Tayla Bruce and Nicole Toomey have claimed their second medal of the Games in Birmingham after winning 26-7 on Friday.
They already have bronze medals from the women’s fours, where they competed alongside Selina Goddard and beat Fiji in the decisive contest at Leamington Spa.

Goddard will have a chance to add a second bronze of her own when she and Katelyn Inch take on Malaysia for a women’s pairs medal on Saturday [7.30pm NZ time].
Inch and Goddard began Friday by pipping Wales in their quarterfinal, 16-15, after trailing by two, 13-15, heading into the 18th and final end.
England proved too strong for the Kiwi duo in their semifinal, however, winning 19-12 to consign New Zealand to the bronze medal match.
Smith, Bruce and Toomey began Friday by losing their semifinal to Malaysia, 16-9, which left them facing the Cook Islands for bronze.
The NZ men’s four were the other Kiwi team in action on day eight of the Games and nearly pulled off a dramatic comeback in their quarterfinal, scoring eight points on the 14th and penultimate end to go from 14-18 down to 16-14 up over Wales.
The Welsh hit back by scoring four points on the final end, however, to advance to the semifinals.
