Nigerian skit maker and singer Carter Efe, born Odahohwo Joseph Efe, has issued a public apology to Afrobeat star Wizkid following a recent outburst that stirred controversy online.
In an earlier viral video, Carter Efe lashed out at Wizkid, calling him “an idiot” and accusing him of being prideful. The remarks came after Efe felt ignored by the music icon, who was seen bonding with another content creator, Shank Comics. According to Efe, his long-standing admiration for Wizkid made the perceived snub more hurtful.
However, the backlash was swift. Loyal fans of Wizkid, known as Wizkid FC, reportedly flooded social media platforms with complaints, leading to Carter Efe’s official pages on both Instagram and TikTok being taken down. The suspension of his accounts seemed to trigger a moment of reflection for the entertainer.
In a newly surfaced video, Carter Efe appeared visibly remorseful. While he maintained that Wizkid has a reputation for pride, he admitted his earlier choice of words was inappropriate and publicly apologized to the star and his fans.
“I overreacted, and I take full responsibility,” Efe said in the video. “Wizkid is someone I’ve always looked up to. I was hurt and I lashed out, but I shouldn’t have.”
The apology has since generated fresh reactions on social media, with many praising Efe for owning up to his mistake, while others see the move as damage control following the hit to his online presence.
