Chelsea’s busy week continues. Just a day after announcing Danny Welbeck’s arrival and revealing that Mykhailo Mudryk would be able to join the squad after his doping ban was reduced, the Blues have admitted to the worst kept secret in football by confirming that Valentin Barco would be joining the Blues from sister club Strasbourg.
Barco’s Chelsea role remains a mystery
Barco is an interesting case – he struggled as a left back in the Premier League in his spell at Brighton, but has looked excellent in Ligue 1 as a central midfielder. It’s not quite clear where his primary position will be at Chelsea, and we will find out a lot in the friendlies to come.
However, after reaching the World Cup final with Argentine Barco still has some time left on holiday, and may not join the squad until they return from Asia in ten days. The game at Stamford Bridge against Real Sociedad on the 15th of August may be the first chance we get to see him in Blue.
Even that may come too soon for him if he doesn’t join the squad next week.
