Chelsea made good progress on trimming their squad last week, confirming multiple loan deals. But with a big group still on the books, they need another similar week to come.
One player who really is stuck in between two stools is Josh Acheampong, as he has been for a few years now. He’s too good to sell or to loan, but too inexperienced to start regularly. But without the loan, he can’t get the experience.
It’s time to break the deadlock – either we need to guarantee him minutes, or send him out for the season to play in the Premier League. There is no shortage of interest – in fact, TalkSport are today reporting on a new potential destination for the young defender.

They say that Coventry, newly returned to the Premier League and managed by Blues legend Frank Lampard, want to take Acheampong for the season.
It’s an interesting proposal – he would start every week there, although they’re favoured to get relegated. He would certainly learn a lot in that position. We’re just not sure the club will go for it – they still want him in the first team group, it seems.
