Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson continues to wait for a decision from Judge Sue L. Robinson regarding whether or not he will be allowed to play in the 2022 NFL season.
While waiting for the announcement of the decision, which could be issued before training camp begins, the 2020 NFL Passing Yards leader has been making sure he doesn’t lose a step.
A photo recently shared by Bryan Burney via social media showed the 26-year-old play-caller working out in Austin, Texas, alongside three other quarterbacks: Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud and Tennessee Titans’ Malik Willis.
Watson has not played a game since 2020, when he was still with the Houston Texans. Although he was on the team’s roster, the three-time Pro Bowler was inactive for all 17 games, NBC Sports reported.
In March, the Georgia native was traded by the Texans to the Browns, along with Houston’s 2024 sixth-round draft pick. In return, Cleveland sent its first-round draft picks in 2022, 2023 and 2024, as well as the Browns’ third-round pick in 2023 and fourth-round picks in 2022 and 2024.
The move was met with some issues, specifically an unhappy Baker Mayfield. Displeased that he was not consulted, the former top pick requested a trade from the Browns.
The 27-year-old was recently shipped to the Carolina Panthers for a 2024 conditional fifth-round draft pick, Panthers.com reported.
The NFL recommended that Watson serve an indefinite suspension of at least a year amid the sexual misconduct allegations against the quarterback, according to reports.
However, Watson and the NFL Players Association are expected to fight the decision if he is given a long-term suspension. They reportedly plan to use treatment against multiple team owners who allegedly violated the league’s Personal Conduct Policy in the past as their case.
Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones could be used as examples for lesser punishments when it comes to the handling of sexual misconduct in the league.
Watson reached confidential financial settlements with 20 of the 24 women who have accused him of sexual misconduct. He has maintained that he never assaulted any of the women or forced any of them into non-consensual sex acts.
