Digi.Com Bhd announced, yesterday, the appointment of Tengku Azmil Zahruddin (pic) as Chair of the Board of Directors of the company. He will also serve the Board as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director. Azmil’s appointment takes effect immediately.
He succeeds Dr Halim Shafie, 73, who only took the Chair role on 1 Dec 2022, and steps down due to personal reasons, effective 19 January 2023. Prior to that, Celcom Axiata Bhd appointed him as its interim Chairman from 2 June 2022
Prior to this appointment, Azmil was the Chief Investment Officer at Khazanah Nasional Bhd responsible for Khazanah’s entire investment portfolio.
He also served Khazanah in various senior positions such as Deputy Managing Director and Executive Director of Investments since 2011. Azmil was also the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Airlines after joining the company in August 2005 as the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to that he was in multiple leadership roles at Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd and PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and Hong Kong. He was previously Chairman of UEM Group and Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels Sdn Bhd and has held directorships in Axiata Group Bhd, IHH Healthcare Bhd, and Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre Bhd (MaGIC). He is currently a board member of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board.
Azmil holds a First-class degree in Economics from the University Cambridge. He is a Chartered Accountant and an Associate Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). He is also an Associate of the Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT).
