Essential Camping Checklist: My 12 Camping Essentials

I never miss a camping opportunity. But over time, I realized that equipment failures could ruin an otherwise perfect trip. 

The more I camped, the more I learned that I couldn’t sacrifice quality or comfort to save some money. Additionally, splurging on some camping essentials can significantly enhance your experience. 

After a lot of trial and error and hundreds of camping days, I can confidently say that I have the right camping gear to rely on, allowing me to enjoy my camping experience without any hassle.

Cooking outdoors becomes much easier with compact, durable cookware.

Lightweight bowls, a reliable pot, and a long-handled spork keep your meals simple and mess-free while saving space in your pack.

Mugs and Bowls: 

I have a Sea to Summit silicone collapsible X Bowl and a Mug. Despite using it often, I haven’t noticed any holes or damage. 

There are inner markings for measurements, so you don’t add too much water to your noodles. 

Cooking Pot: 

I’ve cooked ramen, fried jalapenos, and whatnot in the Sea to Summit Frontier Ultralight 1.3L pot during my camping trips. 

It is lightweight, and the handle detaches, allowing you to pack it neatly in your backpack. 

Titanium Spork: 

Dear camper, get a long-handled spork when camping. It prevents you from slathering your knuckles with sauce.

6. Must Have a First Aid Kit for Camping Trips

A First Aid kit is a small but important investment. I never leave home without it when I’m going camping. I keep 

• Band-aids

• blister care
• an emergency blanket (for longer trips)
• pain relievers, etc.

The kit helps you address minor injuries or emergencies on the go. 

7. Best Clothes to Wear Camping

I spend my camp days in a tank top. It is casual, movement becomes easy, and the lightweight, airy fabric snuggles right when temperatures peak during the day. 

The fit is flattering without being too tight and long enough to wear with leggings or shorts.

My old water purifier started giving an aftertaste, which was unacceptable and nearly left me dehydrated on one of my camping trips.

10. How to Stay Organized While Camping

I’ve discovered that, even in the wild, everything has its place and that it’s easier to stay organized at camp.

11. Best Hygiene Essentials for Camping Trips

Going camping doesn’t mean becoming unhygienic. 

I like to be fresh and fragrant, even if I’m thousands of miles away from my home. 

My toiletries include eco-friendly items: 

• Soap bar
• a toothbrush 
• small tube of toothpaste
• Face wipes are a lifesaver!  
• face wash
• Deodorant
• Toilet paper 
• and sunscreen

If, however, my trip spans two to three weeks, with a mixture of stays in guesthouses and camping, then I pack (along with the above items, of course): 

• Shampoo bar: I prefer using shampoo bars from Zero Wast to reduce plastic. Oh, they smell so sweet and keep my hair fresh for days. 
• Microfiber towel: This Sea-to-Summit towel I swear by! It dries in a flash. It is highly absorbent, so drying yourself doesn’t take long. Best of all, it fits right in your jacket pocket. 

12. Useful Camping Accessories to Pack

The nice-to-haves that made my camping smoother and pleasant. 

I keep a Victorinox Swiss Army Huntsman Pocket Knife on all my camping trips. From opening bottles to skinning the fish, it has never disappointed me. 

Look for a Owala FreeSip with a hose for hands-free drinking. Insulated designs in water bottles are a plus since the water stays cooler a bit longer. 

The BioLite Dash 450 USB-C Rechargeable Running Headlamp is a camping essential. It has settings for multiple lights, including red light. Comfortable on the head. And it provides the perfect light. 

I enjoy sitting outside the camp and spending time there, and this chair quickly became my favorite. 

I was completely won over by how easy it was to cook while seated on it and to sit comfortably anywhere during our long camping days.
