After a lot of thought, Levi and I have decided to remove the paywall associated with our membership. Starting now anyone can join and start submitting their work for regular features on our site and social channels. Our open calls and annual awards will continue to offer one free image submission to anyone (member or not). For those who wish to make more than one submission or, in the case of awards, gain access to unlimited submissions to all award categories there will be one-time, paid options available.
If you’re a member, you should already be aware that we have cancelled all active subscriptions. An email was sent out earlier this week to make sure you know how grateful we are for your ongoing support. But I want to say it again here, in case any of you missed it. THANK YOU! It is not an exaggeration to say: You are the reason Booooooom is still here today.
We recognize that the way people engage with online platforms is changing. There are more subscription services than anyone can keep up with. We want to adapt in a way that feels better for our community, and allows us to be more accessible and inclusive moving forward, even if that forces us to forge a new path.
So, please share your work with us. Share as much as you like. This is the whole point. Our curation will not change. But what we want is to see more work from more of you. More work from different places and perspectives. More work from people who wouldn’t be able to participate otherwise.
If you know of anyone who may be interested in joining our community, help us spread the word! Tell your friends that it’s free (and will remain free for however long they choose to be a member!). Anyone can start sharing their work immediately. Our Illustration Awards open next week and our Photo Awards launch in October as well. If there was ever a time to join up, it’s now!
