From iPhone Duo to Mac, Craft shows what a native productivity app can do

It’s been a busy fall for Apple. iOS and macOS 27 arrived in September, iPhone Duo went on sale just a few days ago, and more Mac announcements are expected later this week. Between the new software and hardware, there’s plenty for Apple users to explore.

Of all these announcements, the iPhone Duo has arguably attracted the most attention. As the first iPhone with a fundamentally different form factor, it introduces new possibilities for how we use our phones. But new hardware is only part of the story. Just as important is how apps take advantage of it. For an app like Craft, which brings notes, tasks, and documents together in one place, the larger display and new multitasking capabilities open up interesting new ways to work.

Craft is ready for iPhone Duo from day one, with an interface designed to take advantage of its new form factor. And while the Duo is getting much of the attention right now, Craft has also seen a steady stream of improvements across iPhone, iPad, and Mac over the past few months.

And there’s an additional bonus for anyone looking to give Craft a try: 40% off for life with code 9to5Mac40, available through this exclusive 9to5Mac offer.

From quick notes to big ideas: Craft on iPhone Duo

Craft has always been developed specifically for Apple’s platforms, with the same features available across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, but an interface tailored to each device. That approach carries over to iPhone Duo, where Craft adapts between compact and unfolded poses.

In its compact form, Craft works much like it does on any other iPhone. You can quickly capture an idea, check off a task, or work on a document with the full set of editing and formatting tools. Unfold the device, though, and there’s suddenly much more room to work with. Writing, organizing information, and navigating longer documents all benefit from the additional space. The matte inner display with its nano-texture finish is particularly well suited to reading, especially when browsing through Craft’s richly styled documents.

The larger display is also a good fit for some of Craft’s more advanced features. Collections, for example, let you organize information in structured views, including Tables and Kanban boards. Being able to see more cards and information at once makes these views considerably more useful on the unfolded screen.

One of the Duo specific iOS features that has gotten the most praise from reviewers is the new side-by-side multitasking mode, and it’s particularly useful with Craft. You can keep a document open on one side of the screen and Photos on the other, dragging images directly into your document. Or open Safari alongside Craft to drag over text, images, and even entire web pages while researching a topic or putting together a mood board.

It’s a good example of how the new form factor can make familiar workflows feel quite different, without requiring an entirely new way of using the app.

Built for the entire Apple ecosystem

For those unfamiliar with Craft, it’s a productivity app that brings notes, tasks, and documents together in one place. You can capture ideas, organize projects, plan your day, and create polished documents to share with others, all within the same app.

Craft is available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and even Apple Vision Pro, with fast syncing that makes it easy to move between devices. It’s also built to work offline, so you can keep writing or organizing your notes on the subway or during a flight. Your changes sync automatically once you’re connected again.

But Craft’s approach goes beyond making the same app available everywhere. Its interface and interactions are designed for each platform, whether you’re working with touch on an iPhone or using a keyboard and trackpad on a Mac. One of Craft’s strengths is how easy it makes it to create good-looking documents, without having to spend much time adjusting layouts or formatting. And if you want to share your work, you can turn any document into a website with a single click.

And of course, being so deeply integrated into the Apple ecosystem, Craft takes full advantage of Apple’s OS features. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets keep frequently used content within reach, Shortcuts lets you automate common workflows, and Siri AI makes it possible to access and work with your Craft content without always having to open the app.

Craft keeps getting better, wherever you use it

While the iPhone Duo launch is a good reason to take another look at Craft, quite a bit has changed in the app itself over the past few months. Rather than focusing exclusively on adding new features, the Craft team has spent much of the summer revisiting existing ones, improving how they work and making everyday interactions faster and more consistent.

The team started by revisiting tasks. In Craft, tasks can live directly inside your notes and documents, keeping them close to the information they’re related to. At the same time, dedicated task views bring everything together, so you can see what’s due today, plan upcoming work, and keep track of tasks across different projects without having to open each document individually.

Templates have also become more flexible. You can start with one of Craft’s existing templates or create your own for recurring workflows, whether that’s meeting notes, project plans, or weekly reflections. You can now also assign a default template to your Daily Notes, so every new day starts with the structure you’ve chosen.

Another area where Craft has taken a somewhat different approach is AI. Rather than making it central to every interaction, Craft treats AI as an optional tool that users can incorporate into their workflow as much or as little as they like.

Craft Assistant is built into the app and can help with writing, editing, and working with information in your documents. You can use it through Craft’s built-in credit system or connect your own AI provider using Bring Your Own Key (BYOK). For those who prefer working with external AI tools, Craft also supports MCP, making it possible to connect your documents and tasks to other agents and build more customized workflows.

And if you’d rather not use AI at all, you can simply disable the assistant in Settings. Unlike some productivity apps that are increasingly building their entire experience around AI, Craft isn’t pushing AI into every interaction, forcing you to change how you work, or making you pay more for features you never asked for. Whether you use its built-in assistant, bring your own provider, or turn AI off entirely, the choice remains yours.

A good time to try Craft

With a new experience on iPhone Duo and a long list of improvements across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, Craft has plenty to offer both new and returning users. Whether you’re looking to organize your notes and tasks or create documents that are easy to share, there’s quite a bit worth exploring.

And there’s an additional incentive for anyone looking to give Craft a try: 40% off for life with code 9to5Mac40, available through the exclusive 9to5Mac offer.

Clear examples do more than decorate an explanation: they show how an idea behaves under recognizable conditions. In education and software documentation alike, strong illustrations begin with a defined goal, then reveal the steps, assumptions, and result without unnecessary detail. A practical test example should state the input, expected output, and boundary condition, because these elements show whether a rule works beyond the simplest case. Including a contrasting case also helps readers distinguish a valid application from a tempting but incorrect one, while concise notes explain why the outcomes differ. When examples are updated with current data and checked against the underlying rule, they remain useful across classrooms, product guides, and professional training.
